Crate--Wire
or plastic. If you only plan on keeping the pup in the crate until
it is potty trained then buy a smaller crate. If you plan on
putting the pup in there as a place for quiet time even when it is older
I recommend a wire crate (30"x21"). Make sure you block off just a
small portion for a puppy. You want the area just big enough for
them to stand up, turn around and lay down.
Bedding Material-- Sherpa pads
work well…would suggest two so that you can wash one.
Nature’s Miracle
--or some other stain and odor remover.
Small Collar or
Harness
--I recommend a 3/8” (7"-10") to begin with.
Later you can switch to a 5/8" (10"-14").
Light Leash --Nylon Web 5/8" wide and 6' long.
Stainless Steel
Food Bowl
--Recommended above plastic or ceramic as it
doesn’t allow bacteria to grow and washes up clean.
Water Bowl
--This can be ceramic…stay away from plastic.
Shampoo
–Gentle puppy formula.
Several different
type brushes
–The first brush I use on them is a pin brush.
Eventually you will want a metal comb and slicker brush for them also.
Nail Clippers
–
There are either guillotine ones or regular
ones…just a matter of preference.
Toys
–
Puppies have a need to chew. Provide them with
lots of “good” chewing things. Soft latex toys as well as sherpa type
toys are good. Be careful as they can sometimes rip the cloth
toys and pull out the stuffing. They will not only make a mess but
they can also ingest some of the stuffing. You can rotate
toys to insure no boredom.
Bones
– I recommend Marrow Bones. They can be purchased
at a grocer usually in the meat counter…listed as Soup bones. Raw
Advantage also packages up these type of bones according to dog size.
They are available at the better pet stores.
Be very careful of
rawhide or Greenies.
They can chew these and soften them and then
swallow pieces…and I have heard stories of pups choking on them.
